An extensive 60-day voyage around the Australian Coast has been cancelled days after the tragic passing of an elderly woman who was stranded by the ship on a remote coastal location.

The passenger had been walking on the remote island with shipmates from the cruise ship, but parted ways from the excursion for a break. The vessel departed without her and came back after some time after the personnel became aware the lady was missing.

An extensive search operation found her person the following day.

Officials are investigating the tragedy, in coordination with police and the medical examiner.

The CEO of the cruise operator said that passengers and crew on the Coral Adventurer were informed that the remainder of the journey had been cancelled due to the "sad loss and earlier engine troubles".

Through an announcement, he mentioned that passengers would be given a total repayment, and said the organization was working "to coordinate the travel back of the individuals via chartered flights".

Authorities also issued an latest statement, and said they had "issued a notice to the Captain" preventing any further travelers from boarding the ship.

The spokesperson said that they would visit the liner in the Australian city upon its arrival.

Timeline of Incidents

The liner first departed Cairns on October 24th, and was merely two days into the expedition at the point of the 80-year-old's demise. The tropical location was the initial destination on the journey.

Guests on the ship - who usually pay tens of thousands of currency to join the cruise - were taken there for a daily excursion with the possibility of hiking or snorkeling.

Family Reaction

The child of the deceased woman said that her loved ones was "shocked and grieved that the ship left the location after an organised outing without my mum".

In her statement, she characterized her parent as an "active elderly person" who was a member of a bushwalking organization.

"From the little details we have been informed, it looks that there was a failure of attention and ordinary reasoning," she said.

She continued that she hoped the examination would be able to pinpoint what "the organization should have undertaken that might have protected Her life".

"Based on information from the investigators that it was a exceptionally warm period, and mother took sick on the uphill trek," she revealed.

"They requested her to head down, alone. Then the boat departed, seemingly without doing a passenger count.

"At some stage in that sequence, or soon after, mother passed away, by herself."

Operator Response

Through an announcement, the Chief Executive affirmed that the organization was "collaborating extensively with authorities to support their investigation".

He mentioned that the company was "deeply sorry that this has transpired" and had extended its complete assistance to the loved ones.

Shipping Sector Practices

The ship caters for up to 120 passengers with forty-six crew, according to company information. It was purpose-built to access remote areas of Australia's shoreline and is outfitted with "tenders" - small boats used to ferry individuals on day excursions.

Events of this nature are uncommon, and cruise ships have procedures to track which travelers are getting on or disembarking, according to industry experts.

"Sneaking ashore or [back] aboard just isn't an choice," a specialist remarked.

Shipping companies take these procedures very seriously and have "advanced technology in place to prevent such incidents from occurring," the specialist added.

"This appears to be probably a shocking - and tragic - one-off."
