Her Royal Highness's Yearly Christmas Musical Celebration Spotlights Unsung Heroes

Her Royal Highness has organised her annual festive musical service at the historic Abbey, with a congregation comprising members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have helped their communities.

The 1,600 guests will hear a blend of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from performers including Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Focusing on Love and Generosity

The focus of the event, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on Friday afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.

Attending the event are Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose daughter died of a brain tumour, and who set up a charity, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to support families who have a terminally ill child.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any expectation or recognition, make an profound impact to the lives of others," Her Royal Highness stated in a letter ahead of the festive gathering.

A Steady Comeback

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own measured re-emergence to official duties following her health challenges and treatment, in November making her major oration since 2023, in which she reflected on recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Performance and Potential

Those coming to the Abbey can listen to talented youth performers supported by the Future Talent charity, co-founded by the former royal to increase availability of musical tuition.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who is a trumpet player and is from Pembrokeshire, has been assisted by the charity, with funding assisting with musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "incredible" to be playing at tonight's service.

"Music can be very expensive," Carys said. She is now enrolled at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to develop their musical skills.

A Sisterly Duo

Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who plays the euphonium, will likewise attend the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many important people," she said.

Attending the service will be representatives of different generations.

That will encompass nine-year-old Saphia Turner, recipient of a youth community award, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to collect donations for local food charities.

Festive Decor and Performances

The Abbey has been festooned with specially made wreaths, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett helping to make them.

Taking to the stage will be recording artist Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a Cornish sea shanty group, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the perfect culmination."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be aired by a major network on Christmas Eve.
